Easy Hot Buttered Rum

Indulge your holiday cravings with this quick, easy, delicious recipe for hot buttered rum. Just set your butter out early to soften.

Ingredients

  • one stick salted buttered, softened 
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (light or dark, your preference)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon 
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves 
  • 1/4 tsp ground allspice 
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg 
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract 
  • rum of your choice (though I don’t recommend spiced)
  • hot water

Directions:

In a small bowl, stir spices, sugar and vanilla into softened butter. A flat spatula may prove helpful, as you need to smoosh (yep, technical term) the butter in order to get even spice distribution throughout. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. To make a drink: place one to two tablespoons of butter into a mug. Add rum to your taste — a finger or two? Fill the remaining space with hot water. Stir until butter dissolves. Enjoy!
